The Mikado -- The 1926 Electric D'Oyly Carte Recording (MP3 Album from the Original CD Reissue (GS16-1)
Complete Opera by W. S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan recorded under the direction of Rupert D'Oyly Carte. Recorded in 1926, The Mikado was the first of the early HMV electric sets.
The cast of the 1926 recording is probably the finest ever assembled in the 20th century. The complete recording has not, however, been available on CD except for a Pearl transfer on which no noise reduction was attempted. The present transfer preserves a very high quality recording while reducing the noise substantially.
The digital download includes all of the CD inserts and graphics required to replicate the original CD reissue.
